A: It means that in a community as diverse as City Heights, a violin program steeped in classical, European repertoire and tradition, is perhaps not the most relevant to a family that has recently immigrated from a country in Africa or South America. Why make it relevant? Because relevance creates “sanctuary…”

Capoeira is call-and-response, basic rhythm and movement. If I can find a common thread through music for the family that doesn’t speak any English, I’ve made an important connection for all of us.”
