As anticipated, global interest in Brazilian culture skyrocketed before and during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. That fervor is continuing post-Rio, and is driving the world’s citizens to sample Brazil’s diverse cultural offerings both abroad and close to home.

The Olympics is an obvious chance for varying cultures of the world to mingle and learn from one another. In the spirit of the Games, the Women’s Rubgy Sevens team from New Zealand entered into a cultural partnership with the people of the Mangueira favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they were able to exchange their ideas, sports, and friendship.

The Chicago Dancing Festival recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and, for the first time, featured a capoeira performance by Mestre Marisa’s Gingarte Capoeira that wowed the audience at the West Performance Platform at the Navy Pier.

São Paulo’s Grupo de Capoeira Angola Rainha and José Geraldo Santos Souza were recently the focus of a story by Out Front titled, Capoeira: It’s About Love, Not War.
