It seems like every other day, we hear about another capoeira group that is flourishing in their own corner of the world. It’s great to see them get local or even national news coverage, which can only benefit the group and help it reach more people. Earlier this week, a local news outlet in Bournemouth, England posted a story on Origens do Brasil, a capoeira group that has been alive and well in Bournemouth for many years.
The Daily Echo had this to say:
The Bournemouth class started 14 years ago in 2002 by Beatriz Viana Rosa, known as Professora Bia, a young woman from Sao Paulo and since then the Origens do Brasil group has expanded to various locations in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. While some typical misunderstandings about capoeira are present in the article, we have to applaud any attention being paid to capoeira, supporting the hardworking mestres, teachers, and students in that group. Please read more about Origens do Brasil at the links below.Today saw dozens of capoeira students meet at the YMCA in Westover Road for the first day of the Bournemouth club’s grading event.
They were also joined by eight guest teachers who have travelled from as far away as France, Croatia and Brazil.
