As the saying goes, capoeira is for men, women, and children. Taking that statement to heart, Connecticut’s Raça em Movimento is hosting its first event honoring the women and mothers of capoeira—a powerful, essential, and often under-appreciated segment of the capoeira community.
Mestre Efraim Silva and Professora Fominha are hosting such esteemed women as Mestra Tisza Coelho (and her daughter Dora) to help provide energy and experience to the rodas and classes taking place all weekend long.
Pam McLoughlin for the New Haven Register: > Capoeira professor Lisa Bergmann and center owner and capoeira master Efraim Silva, are acting as hosts for the weekend of capoeira and Brazilian dance, with teachers coming from as far away as Brazil.
Bergmann said while men and women will be part of Thursday’s activity and the weekend, it will celebrate and honor women in the capoeira community, especially moms who didn’t give up the exercise when they had children, but in many cases, involved them as well.
