August 3 is Dia do Capoeirista in Brazil, or Capoeirista Day!

While officially recognized in some states but not yet nationally in Brazil, Dia do Capoeirista still brings national attention to the art form as an integral part of the country’s cultural heritage and pastime. The date was chosen as a tribute to the creation of Law No. 4649 in 1985 in the state of São Paulo, officially establishing this date as a celebration to all capoeiristas.
